Finding the right FM channel!

This is really my favorite third-party iPhone web application. Since many cars don't have the best iPhone/iPod integration, using an FM transmitter is sometimes the only way of getting the music in your car speakers. The huge problem with an FM transmitter is always to find the right frequency that is not in use by any radio station. The problem gets harder in large cities. This website will let you enter a zip code and it will give you a list of the best possible unused frequencies! You can check it out at http://dlo.com/openfm/

Othello game

According to the developer's site, this is a classic game. To be honest, it's the first time I see it, but it looks pretty cool. The interface is very clean and well adapted for playing on the iPhone. It is at http://members.tripod.com/rv6/othello.html

A classic boxing game

There isn't really much to talk about today in terms of third party apps, so I'll go with this cool game called Knock Out. It was originally a Nintendo game called PunchOut. You can check it out at: http://www.gyrocade.com/ko/

Making the iPhone Safari more like the real Safari!

In the real Safari, you can easily mouse over a link to see where a link will actually bring you. It is not really as easy on the iPhone. There is a way to do it however. Instead of just tapping on it, you can just hold your finger on the link. After a few seconds, a balloon will pop up with all the information of where the link will bring you.

Stacking log in a game?

Okay, I never would have thought of this as a real game. The concept looks really weird at first, but once you start playing, it rocks! You can check out the "Stack the log" game at http://xwuz.com/stack/game.html

Dictionary and Thesaurus!

If you are looking for a good Dictionary and Thesaurus for your iPhone, this is it. What I like is that it is really simple so it fits really well on the screen size of the iPhone. I am not sure it was actually designed for the iPhone, but it's great anyway. It is at http://www.askaword.com/

The World Clock!

Okay, I know the iPhone includes most of what is in this web application right in a widget, but I thought I'd post it anyway for two reasons: it is really well developed with a precise and accurate way of adding a clock based on Google Maps and there isn't that much to talk about in term of iPhone tips. Third-party development is not really here yet and web applications are pretty limiting. Like I just said, what is great about this app is how precise you can be when adding a city. You don't have to choose within a predetermined list, you can really choose your city on a Google map. You can check it out at http://www.worldclockr.com/mobile.html

Calculating tip in restaurant!

This is the perfect example of why Web application can be even better than full scaled apps. I wouldn't want to download this application that calculates the amount of tip I have to leave and have it always occupy space on the main screen. Having it as a simple bookmark makes so much sense. It is at http://steveorr.net/games/TipCalc.aspx

The NYC Subway!

eBooks on the iPhone, at last!

This was one of the features that I was really disappointed not to see on the iPhone. eBooks are so much more convenient than real books. You always have your iPhone on you wherever you are. This website will let you browse through the ebooks from Project Gutenberg as well as let you add your own ebooks. It is at http://scrollbox.org/.

The iPhone is now a ... a Graphing Calculator!

Okay, it might not be as feature filled as a graphing calculator (in terms of math features), but it is really cool. It really shows how much the iPhone is a real all-in-one device. It is a third-party web application in which you can enter math functions and get the resulting graph. It is at http://furbo.org/stuff/conspiracy.html

Tuning your guitar with your iPhone!

Well it looks like the possibilities are endless with an iPhone. You can now use it to tune your guitar. The application looks pretty nice. The audio files are QuickTime which is definitely the best choice for compatibility with the iPhone. I'm not an expert in guitar tuning so I'm probably not the best judge. It is at http://iphoneguitartuner.com/

Skype on the iPhone, at last!

If there was something I was hoping for when Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone is Skype. Skype is one of the best VoIP solution out there. I thought it really would be great when on WiFi. Unfortunately, the news of no third-party applications stopped Skype. We can now finally use Skype on the iPhone. It is a Skype web application. It works very well and finally solve the problem of no VoIP. You can check it out on your iPhone at http://skypeforiphone.com/index_iphone.jsp

Facebook and MacRumors mobile!

One of the things that most websites who present iPhone application didn't mention is that you can also check out the mobile version of a website. Even if it is not specifically made for the size of the iPhone, it will still look better than a full size website!

Facebook Mobile (m.facebook.com):

MacRumors Mobile (mobile.macrumors.com):
